MSNBC's Scarborough Attacks Sarah Palin, Promotes Howard Dean

JOE'S TRUE COLORS

Scarborough Removes All Doubt As To His Leanings

For the few remaining souls still confused as to Joe Scarborough's true political leanings, the MSNBC host / syndicated radio talker has resolved the matter for good.

During today's Morning Joe, the former congressman lashed out against Sarah Palin (whose book has been a runaway success, especially up next to Scarborough's relatviely weak performance), claiming nutty former DNC chairman Howard Dean is significantly more intelligent.

At NewsBusters, Mark Finkelstein has the transcript and details:

MARK HALPERIN: Think about it compared to Howard Dean in 2004. He was exciting too, and he had these huge crowds, and people said, this guy's going win the Democratic nomination --

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Not the same, sorry --

HALPERIN: Well, it's big crowds and it's excitement, but it doesn't translate into a governing majority.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: I'm just going to stop here. I'm going to enrage conservatives, but --

OFF-CAMERA VOICE [Katrina vanden Heuvel?]: Go for it!

SCARBOROUGH: I know Howard Dean. I've spoken to Howard Dean. It is such a disservice to compare--forget ideology, conservatives!-- I think Howard's way left and all that. But it is such a disservice to compare Sarah Palin in any aspect to Howard Dean. Yes, because that is an insult to Howard Dean's intelligence.

If Joe has any potential non-ideological defense, it could be professional jealousy. Given his past antics, including a push for a Rush-like radio contract and subsequent troubles in talk syndication, it's possible that watching Palin's political rebirth could be too much for Scarborough to bear.

Book sales aren't the only potential issue: Palin has reportedly considering a TV or radio career if she chooses not to run for the presidency in 2012.

At the same time,
insulting Palin is a great way to improve his standing within the far-left NBC organization, just days after Lou Dobbs was shown the door at CNN likely for holding views not in line with Obama and his supporters.

The bottom line: if Scarborough had any core conservative beliefs, he wouldn't be slamming Palin while aware of precisely the kind of reaction that would result.

  • I think it's pretty funny accusing Scarbourough of professional jealousy on this site. Oh, and shouldn't there be some sort of update that MSNBC did apologize about the Palin photos?

  • Joe Scarborough is another phony ala Michael Smerconish who believes the American people are too stupid to realize he is full of it when he plays the token "conservative" on BSNBC. Like Smerconish, he made his career by duping people while pretending to be someone he's not. The only people he is duping are the small handfull of liberals who watch BSNBC faithfully every day & believe he's a conservative. Howeird Dean is certifiably insane as is Morning Joe obviously. It's padded cell time for Mr. Scarborough. He's been Smerconished.

  • How can he say Howard Dean is intelligent, when everything Howard Dean supports is wrong? That is not a sign of intelligence, it is sign of stubbornness.

  • Brian

    real cnservatives run from Palin

    she is not a conservative

    Ron Paul is a conservative

Palin is a vile neo-con Bushie, heritage foundation loser

get with it Brian, real cons listen to Alex Jones, not the main stream GOP approved radio and real conservatives reject all neo-cons

The political landscape has changed, and you Brian are not considered a conservative any longer

Fox Nation and other rightist webizens are aghast at Scarborough’s slap at Palin. But do you think they ever bothered to actually compare the two?
    Sarah Palin:
Attended four universities before attaining a degree in journalism. Howard Dean: Earned a BA in political science at Yale and medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Sarah Palin: Miss Wassila and third runner up in the Miss Alaska pageant.
Howard Dean: Stock broker on Wall Street.
Sarah Palin: Brief stint as a sportscaster for local Anchorage TV.
Howard Dean: Practiced family medicine in Vermont.
Sarah Palin: Served two-terms as Mayor of Wassila, AK.
Howard Dean: Elected to the Vermont House of Representatives and later, lieutenant governor.
Sarah Palin: Quit half way through her first term as Governor of Alaska.
Howard Dean: Served six terms as Governor of Vermont.
Sarah Palin: Selected by John McCain as VP candidate. Howard Dean: Ran for the nomination of the Democratic Party for President.
Sarah Palin: Went Rogue. Howard Dean:Was elected to chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee.

The similarities are mind-boggling. Scarborough was quite right to admonish Halperin for his simplistic and incorrect analysis. But the bigger issue here is how someone like Halperin can be accorded the respect and authority of an editor’s role at Time Magazine. Exactly how low are their standards?
